Jungle Territory

The day after we had our first meeting in the Bear Thorough Witness book about the brothers around the world doing all kinds of service we went to our jungle territory!  We took a bus about 45 minutes away and walked the main road.  From there, we went into deep into the jungle area to reach huge farms on the other side.  It's almost impossible to get through the territory because everyone wants to sit and talk for along time and also feed us.  They are so appreciative to us for coming all the way out there.

Our instructions going in:  look out for snakes, stay close and check yourself for ticks when you get home--nice.

Ughh!  Note to self- buy hiking boots on next trip to the States!
Yay a farm!  Walked all the way to the top of that hill only to realize the person was at the bottom washing clothes in the creek at the bottom.  Once we got back to the bottom, she said she was done so we walked all the way to the top again!

On to the next house!

I was smiling nervously because a householder gave me this cocoa to eat (what chocolate is made of).  People are extremely hospitable here.  They don't actually ask if you want something, they just hand it to you.  When she gave this to me, I nervously asked everyone if they wanted some but they just grinned at me and took out the cameras to capture my face as I tasted it.  It wasn't bad.  Tasted kind of tangy.  Fortunately I had the coconut in my lap to rinse it down.  You suck all the white stuff off then spit the seed in the opposite side of the shell to roast in the sun for a few days then roast it.  After that, they are shelled and ground to be mixed with sugar and milk.  So yes, it's possible that someone sucked on that Lindt chocolate before it got to you!
